On May 31st, 1911 the Titanic was launched into the River Lagan, still without her four majestic funnels.after launching, the Titanic spent ten months being fitted out and furnished in Harland and Wolff's deep water basin.
Nearly 15,000 yard workers were employed to build the Olympic and the Titanic.
They were the largest moving objects that had ever been constructed at the time. To accommodate the giant liners, Harland and Wolff removed three existing slipways from its Queens Island, Belfast, yards and replace them with two huge new slips. Towering above them was a new 175 foot gantry.
